Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) is NGOs (Gedaref Sudan). GDCO is the founder of the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the 13th in the world (Sudan national Telecentre academy SuNTA). Digital city of Eindhoven (DSE) donated 750 computers to GDCO and more than ten community development projects were established using ICT. GDCO is the winner of information for development award i4d e-India 2007 ,,, also the winner of i4d 2008 awards for the best innovations at the grassroots Telecentre ,,,, The winner of i4d 2009 awards  for  civil societies initiatives for development,,,, GDCO has 4 internet websites in Arabic,,, Dutch, English and the fourth is in UN-ESCWA,,, also it Has more than150 links and blogs and 500 pictures

delegation of Eindhoven municipality to Gedaref Sudan march 2007

 

A relationship was established between the Municipality of Eindhoven and Gedaref to support water projects, environment and basic infrastructure of Gedaref city because it is affected by the large numbers of Eritrean and Ethiopian refugees …  students from the University of Eindhoven arrived to see these effects ... The Netherlands Organization for Development - SAF - joined in 1994 and began projects in 1997 and Eindhoven  locality send Dr. Agnes Ovinginton  the coordinator of the international relations …

the first signed twinning partnership was in 1998 focused on the administrative aspects of the municipal council and limited projects in education, water, and Environment, especially after the withdrawal of DUGAP organization with a focus on education through various conventions and specific contribution of all parties and ended with a rehabilitation of a large number of local schools in North and South Gedaref and also the program includes improvement of the health status of the city through the solid waste and sanitation project. The program includes Gedaref water projects, which includes a number of drilling wells and dams to collect the rain fall water, also included maintenance and rehabilitation of al-showak water station and the pipe line which provides Gedaref with water...  this partnership support 9 NGOs (together MAAN) working together on different aspects supported through NOVIB project. 

This partnership extended to establish the Gedaref digital city organization (DSE) through the initiative of Mr. Ben Waumans (1942 – 2009) the chairman of digital city of Eindhoven and the board of DSE,,  Gedaref delegation ( Mr. Amin Oraibi , engineer Mohammad Hussein, coordinator of the twinning Mr. Mohammed toum Awadalgead and Dr. Agnes Ovinginton  the coordinator of the international relations and many of interested people  from Gedaref community leaded by Mr. al-basher Sahal, Nour  Abdmagid and dr. Motasim Ahmed Mousa…    

      DSE donated 35 computers the first batch were made then another 303 computers arrived 2006 …  in December 2006 chairman of GDCO Mr. Ahmed Mahmoud Mohammed Eisa arrived Eindhoven to witness the honoring Dr. Agnes Ovinginton …  On December 19, 2006 he delivered speech in Eindhoven council appreciated the great effort done for Gedaref community development. Special thanks to digital city of Eindhoven and its partners and all those who contributed to the support of the GDCO ... In 2007 another 420 computers donated to GDCO.  his excellency the mayor of Eindhoven, Mr.. Alexander Saacer accompanied by two honorable members of the Council (Riky van Herk & Hans van Zijl ) and a number of council executives visited Gedaref... In October 2007 the chairman of GDCO visited Eindhoven from Dan Hague invited by the UN-HABITAT In October 2008 GDCO chairman attended  the global Telecentre academy meeting in Barcelona (GDCO founded the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the 13th in the world)   and he visited Eindhoven and met with her excellency the deputy of Eindhoven council mayor,   the board of DSE with council member Riky van Herk and many members of Gedaref Eindhoven volunteers (SPEG ,, Dr. agnes,, andaria) .. Mr. eisa talked about the progress between Gedaref and Eindhoven communities and the efforts done by GDCO to improve this partnership and at end he informed the participant that Gedaref university council named the big hall in the faculty of information technology Eindhoven Hall as appreciation for the great support of Eindhoven community to Gedaref.

    The concept of NGOs as a receptive organization for donation is completely changed and they become partners in development and the big PPP (public, private partnership) become true,,, The main feature of these partnerships is sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices, which help in saving money and time,,, The digital city of Eindhoven donated 750 computers to GDCO in last year’s and more than ten projects in cooperation with the Government Gedaref and civil society organizations working in the field of technology were established

 GDCO hosted the 5th  east African Telecentre leaders forum (5th EATLF 8th  – 11th June 2008),, GDCO paid all the local costs (hotels,,, food,,, local transport,, laundry,,, mobile Sim cards,,, the main issue was the Telecentre Academy. 27 participants from 17 countries attended the forum.  On the 11th June Sudan national Telecentre academy (SuNTA) was declared as the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the middle east and it is the 13th in the world.  In august 2008 and at the Telecentre forum in e-India 2008 the vice chancellor of Indaira Gandhi national Open University (IGNOU), telecentre.org, Gedaref state minister of education, CSDMS and GDCO chairman launched the website of SuNTA. GDCO attend the meeting in Barcelona Spain. On October 27th Gedaref state minister of education in the presence of Gedaref governor declared the opening of SuNTA.
