Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) is NGOs (Gedaref Sudan). GDCO is the founder of the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the 13th in the world (Sudan national Telecentre academy SuNTA). Digital city of Eindhoven (DSE) donated 750 computers to GDCO and more than ten community development projects were established using ICT. GDCO is the winner of information for development award i4d e-India 2007 ,,, also the winner of i4d 2008 awards for the best innovations at the grassroots Telecentre ,,,, The winner of i4d 2009 awards  for  civil societies initiatives for development,,,, GDCO has 4 internet websites in Arabic,,, Dutch, English and the fourth is in UN-ESCWA,,, also it Has more than150 links and blogs and 500 pictures

On the 3rd of March 2010 at the New World Hotel Ballroom in Makati City  Manila The telecentre.org Foundation (The international initiative) announced officially transferred from Canada (where it is hosted by International Development Research Centre (IDRC) since 2005) and launched in the Philippines by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT). The turnover and launch was attended by around 150 participants, 21 of whom were foreign delegates.

 

 

Philippine Senator Edgardo Angara and Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) accepted the program from Dr. Rohinton Medhora, IDRC’s Vice President for Programs, via a symbolic turnover of the glass plaque bearing the telecentre.org logo. It was marked by the ceremonial banging of the gong by each of the partners namely IDRC, CICT and Microsoft. The latter was represented by its Senior Director for Global Community Affairs, Dr. Akhtar Badshah. A speech was delivered by partners mentioning the role of Telecentres in community development. The Executive Director, Dr. Basheerhamad Shadrach of Telecentre.org Foundation speak about Telecentre.org 2 and the effort done by IDRC, Microsoft, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and explain how telecentre.org has brought the benefits of the knowledge society to poor and isolated communities by making Telecentres stronger and more sustainable

An International Telecentre Forum followed in the afternoon with Telecentre leaders and activists from different countries sharing their experiences in the Telecentre movement. Local participants had the chance to interact with them during the open forum.

Since 2005, telecentre.org and now the foundation has worked with 200.000 Telecentres networks and organizations spread across 70 countries to provide the support, tools, and opportunities that Telecentres need to help people overcome poverty and create economic opportunities. Together, we reached approximately 40-million Telecentre users and counting.

Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the President of the Republic of the Philippines, shows her felicitations to the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) for hosting the second phase of telecentre.org. and conveyed her warmest greetings and appreciation to the founders and social investors of telecentre.org for bestowing upon the Philippines the distinct honor of providing it a new home from today until 2015.

Ahmed mahmoud Mohamed eisa the chairman of Gedaref digital city attended the opening ceremonies and present a paper about Telecentres as a partnership for development and he talked about GDCO projects and its sustainability, also he talked about Sudan national Telecentre academy as the first Telecentre in Africa and the Middle East and the 13th in the world.

 GDCO hosted the 5th  east African Telecentre leaders forum (5th EATLF 8th  – 11th June 2008),, GDCO paid all the local costs (hotels,,, food,,, local transport,, laundry,,, mobile Sim cards,,, the main issue was the Telecentre Academy. 27 participants from 17 countries attended the forum.  On the 11th June Sudan national Telecentre academy (SuNTA) was declared as the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the middle east and it is the 13th in the world.  In august 2008 and at the Telecentre forum in e-India 2008 the vice chancellor of Indaira Gandhi national Open University (IGNOU), telecentre.org, Gedaref state minister of education, CSDMS and GDCO chairman launched the website of SuNTA. GDCO attend the meeting in Barcelona Spain. On October 27th Gedaref state minister of education in the presence of Gedaref governor declared the opening of SuNTA.
